APIAS - SSL Support

Data integrity is of paramount importance when moving data between systems. Secure Socket Layers (SSL) is the de-facto web-to-host security standard and is also the standard authentication-encryption scheme used between Web browsers and Web servers. The familiar padlock symbol that appears in a browsers task bar when a secure transaction is being performed is confirmation that the transaction is SSL enabled.

Unfortunately, Enterprise Extender does not support SSL. This means that end-to-end, session-level security is not possible with Enterprise Extender alone and that particularly sensitive e-commerce transactions such as online banking, or the replacement of a 3745/SNI inter/intra-company connection, may be less secure than either party would wish.

APIAS provides full authentication via the use of digital certificates using industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. This means that users can now confidently employ Enterprise Extender to support their SNA applications, end-to-end, over an IP backbone.
